Welcome to my showcase! This showcase is a culmination of several of the artifacts from my time in the Michigan State Masters of Education Program. I have divided my learning into the three main impacts that this program has had on me: Literacy, Math and Science, and Leadership. To me, these are the three most important parts of teaching, which is why I chose to showcase them here.
Literacy
Math and Science
A Case Study in Justification
In order to study how justification impacts mathematics education, I completed an observational study on using justification in Calculus. I have since then added justification problems to my math and physics curriculums. To see the methods used and results of justification in mathematics, click on the PDF to the right.
Using Assessment to Drive Instruction
In order to use assessment to drive instruction, I completed a study where I used pre, during, and post assessments in order to change my instructions. In my units following this study, I have continued to use these tests to see student understanding. To see the study and results, click on the PDF to the left.
Leadership
Case Study Analysis 1
Blue Mountain High School is evaluating their language arts program. In order to find the best solution, I analyzed the case study to figure out what is best for the school. As a leader in my school, I am constantly meeting with other staff members to discuss problems and find the best solutions. Analyzing this case study has allowed me to help my school evaluate different programs and determine their effectiveness. To see this analysis, click on the PDF to the right.
Case Study Analysis 2
Mountain University is evaluating how to best serve their high school with several low income and minority students. In order to find the best solution, I analyzed the case study and gave options. At my school, I am always trying to find better ways to manage situations with my parents and students. Analyzing this case study helped me to step back and see the bigger picture in my school as well as Mountain Uniersity. To see this analysis, click on the PDF to the left.
